Naxalbari, 10th August: Three more individuals have been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was allegedly beaten by a mob after being caught attempting a burglary in Dayaram Jote, Naxalbari. The arrested individuals have been identified as Har Bappa Shil, Nirmal Ghosh, and Bishu Das.
The incident took place on Sunday when the accused allegedly attempted to enter a house in Dayaram Jote. His leg reportedly became trapped in a window grill, following which the homeowner discovered and apprehended him. As news of the incident spread, a crowd gathered at the spot.
The man was allegedly beaten severely by several people and was later admitted to Naxalbari Rural Hospital in critical condition. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following a complaint, police initially arrested two individuals in connection with the incident. During their remand, interrogation reportedly led investigators to the names of other people allegedly involved in the assault.
Acting on the information, police conducted another raid in the area last night and arrested three more suspects.
The three arrested individuals were produced before the Siliguri Court on Monday. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the mob assault and identify others allegedly involved.
