Jalpaiguri Land Losers’ Committee withdrew their agitation after getting assurance from the administration

Rajganj, 16th January: On the 11th day of their agitation, members of the Jalpaiguri Land Losers’ Committee withdrew their agitation after getting the assurance from the administration.


It is to recall, several people who gave up their land for a government project under Jalpaiguri district staged a demonstration alleging that they are yet to receive compensation. Under the banner of Land Losers’ Committee, the agitators also blocked one of the major roads that connect Siliguri to Assam.

Today, the Executive Magistrate Sadar Swapan Kumar Patra, Rajganj Panchayat Samiti’s Audit Purnima Roy, and Rajganj BDO N. C. Sherpa reached out to the agitators and gave the assurance after much discussion.
The agitators withdrew the dharna however, members of the Land Losers’ Committee have warned that if the jobs are not guaranteed within a month, then they will stage a massive agitation again.


The Executive Magistrate stated that after hours of convincing the agitators, they finally agreed to withdraw the agitation. Patra further added that the information regarding the demands of the Committee has been to the top officials and will immediately notify the members of the Land Losers’ Committee once they receive the orders from the concerned departments.
