Siliguri, 24th May: In a continued effort to expose those involved in the illicit betting market surrounding IPL matches, the Siliguri police apprehended an individual identified as Binod Mandal. This arrest follows the recent crackdown on online gambling activities discovered in a meat shop located in the Bagrakote area, carried out by the police on May 18. MD Sarfaraz and MD Nafeez Alam were arrested during the operation.
During rigorous interrogation and subsequent remand of MD Sarfaraz, the name of Binod Mandal surfaced as an accomplice of the accused. Acting promptly, Binod Mandal was arrested last night from YMA Ground in Babupara. The police seized a mobile phone from him, which contained evidence of transactions worth lakhs of rupees made on the online gambling application. Today, both Binod Mandal and MD Sarfaraz were produced in the Siliguri court after five days of police remand. The police are diligently investigating the entire matter.
