Siliguri, 23rd July: The Income Tax Department has initiated action to attach properties belonging to a Siliguri businessman over alleged pending income tax dues amounting to several crores.
According to reports, businessman Gopal Agrawal has outstanding income tax dues of around ₹2.5 crore for the financial years 2016–17, 2020–21 and 2022–23. The total amount has reportedly increased further after the addition of interest and penalties.
Officials had earlier issued multiple notices directing him to clear the outstanding dues. However, after the dues allegedly remained unpaid, the department’s tax recovery wing initiated attachment proceedings.
As part of the action, a notice has been pasted at Flat 1D of Nandan Apartment on Pranami Mandir Road after attaching the property.
Sources said the department is also preparing to attach an office located near Uttar Banga Marwari Bhawan on Sevoke Road.
The Income Tax Department has reportedly given a final one-month deadline to clear the pending dues. If the payment is not made within the stipulated period, the attached properties may be put up for auction as part of the recovery process.
