Illegal wood worth around Rs 1 crore recovered before being smuggled in Rajganj

Rajganj, 10th December: Forest workers of Belakoba range recovered Burma wood worth about one crore rupees from two trucks while being smuggled. Along with this, a person has also been arrested in this incident. 


Reportedly, an operation was launched under the leadership of Belakoba Ranger Sanjay Dutta, this morning in Doshdorga area adjacent to Jalpaiguri on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway. Acting on a tip-off, the team intercepted two trucks and took one of the drivers, identified as Rashid Khan of Delhi, into custody while the other fled away from the scene. 


According to Forest Department sources, Rashid Khan was arrested with Burma wood worth about one crore rupees. The woods were being smuggled in the guise of coal sacks. After questioning the driver, the officials learned that the wood was being transported from Assam to Gurgaon. The accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri district court on Sunday.
