Siliguri, 09th June: Matigara Police Station and Enforcement Branch jointly exposed illegal LPG refilling activity amid rising gas shortage.
During a late-night operation, police seized over 400 filled and empty gas cylinders from two trucks. The drivers and others involved fled the spot after the raid.
The activity was reportedly taking place in an area under Matigara police station limits, where gas was being transferred from filled cylinders to empty ones.
Preliminary information suggests the trucks came from Raniganj and were headed towards the hills, where the cylinders were allegedly diverted for illegal refilling.
Police sources said the role of some gas agencies is also under investigation.
Search operations are underway to trace those involved, and police said strict legal action will follow.
