House helper’s husband arrested on charges of theft in Siliguri, stolen jewellery recovered

Siliguri, 22nd February: In a recent development, the cops of Panitanki Outpost apprehended the husband of a house helper Batasi Das on charges of theft. The arrested accused has been identified as Keshav Barman, who lives in a rented accommodation in the Niranjan Nagar area of Siliguri.


Reportedly, on February 14, an incident of theft occurred in a residence in the Ashram Para area. After the incident, the owner of the house became suspicious of the house help. Upon inquiry, as the house helper refrained from revealing, the owner lodged a written complaint at the Panitanki Outpost on February 20.

Based on the complaint, the officials interrogated Batasi Das. Subsequently, the police apprehended the husband Keshav, based on suspicion. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that Keshav worked as toto driver, and dropped his wife everyday at the owner’s house. Similarly, on the day of Saraswati Puja, on February 14, Keshav arrived to drop his wife. During this, he sensed an opportunity and stole gold jewellery worth about Rs 2 lakh from the house.


On Wednesday night, the police arrested the accused after interrogation and recovered the stolen gold jewellery. On Thursday, the police produced the accused before the Siliguri Court for further course of action.
