Jalpaiguri, 01st August: Incessant rainfall inundated several parts of Jalpaiguri, causing widespread inconvenience to residents. Within a few hours of heavy rain, roads and low-lying areas across most of the city’s 25 wards were submerged.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jalpaiguri recorded around 95 mm of rainfall till Saturday morning. The heavy downpour led to waterlogging on several roads, while rainwater entered the premises of houses in several low-lying areas.
Residents alleged that even moderate rainfall results in severe waterlogging across different parts of the city and claimed that no permanent solution has been implemented to address the recurring problem.
Meanwhile, the continuous rainfall has caused the water levels of the Teesta and Karala rivers to rise. According to the Irrigation Department, a yellow alert has been issued for the Mekhliganj area following the rise in the Teesta River’s water level.
