Haldia Gas Cylinder Factory workers concerned after ‘No Work, No Pay’ instructions issued

Siliguri, 30th September: The workers of Haldia Gas Cylinder Factory are highly concerned after ‘No Work, No Pay’ instructions have been issued on behalf of the factory authorities before Durga Puja.

The workers said that there are around 145 workers in the Haldia Gas Cylinder Factory at Fulbari who work according to the rules of the factory. However, the factory authorities are trying to impose new rules on the workers by showing the deficit. In addition, they are also thinking of laying off the workers. They went on strike on Thursday in protest of the decision and also in support of multiple demands.

INTTUC leader Yanul Haque Munshi said that the workers have been employed in the factory for the past 23 years. Even today, their daily pay is less than 300 rupees.

On the other hand, Debabrata Paul, manager of the factory, said that the factory is currently in deficit due to several reasons including lockdown. Hence, the authorities have changed several rules in the interest of the factory and the workers. He appealed to all to be united and agree with the decision for the benefit of the factory.
