GTA Chairman Anit Thapa urges State CM to take action against racism

Darjeeling, 20th March: Chairman of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Board of Administrators, Anit Thapa, on Friday released a letter to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking her attention to the racial discrimination being faced by students, workers and travelers from the GTA region, Sikkim and North East area.

Thapa wrote that the people having “mongoloid” physical features are experiencing multiple forms of xenophobia in public transit, colleges and public places where people are making racial comments and distancing from them. Thapa also mentioned that the people of the hills are being tagged with “Coronavirus” which is highly disturbing and also a social problem. He sought the CM’s attention into the matter and urged that the government will take pro-active steps towards stopping any such incidents of racial discrimination in the near future.
