Good news for Durga Puja committees, Chief Minister announces increase in grant

Siliguri, 22nd August: The state government, under the guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has once again raised the grant amount. As Durga Puja approaches with just a few days remaining, preparations are in full swing across various locations within the state. Simultaneously, the state administration is also diligently arranging for the seamless execution of the festivities.


Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee convened a meeting in Kolkata with both the administrative officials and puja committees. Districts from across the state participated in this significant virtual gathering, which included representatives from the Darjeeling district administration and puja organizers, among others. Among the attendees in the virtual meeting were Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor Goutam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Municipal Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, Sub Divisional Officer Priyanka Singh, and officials from the police administration.

Following this crucial meeting, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an announcement that was met with applause. She revealed the decision to raise the grant for Puja Committees, increasing it from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 70,000. Additionally, she disclosed that a quarter of the electricity bill would also be waived, underscoring the government’s commitment to support and uphold the spirit of the upcoming celebrations.
