Gold trader arrested in Siliguri for purchasing stolen jewellery, items recovered

Siliguri, 29th May: NJP police have arrested a gold trader, identified as Riju Karmakar, for allegedly buying stolen jewellery linked to a recent robbery case. Several pieces of stolen gold were recovered from his possession during the arrest.


The case dates back to 16th April, when a robbery took place at a house in the Deshapriya Sarani area of Siliguri. Following an investigation, police arrested Debashish Das, a resident of Matigara Paribahan Nagar, on 3rd May and recovered multiple stolen items from him.

During interrogation, Debashish revealed that he had sold the stolen jewellery to Riju Karmakar, a gold trader from Khaprail in Matigara. Acting on this information, police apprehended Karmakar on Wednesday and recovered several stolen ornaments from him.


On Thursday, the accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri court as further legal proceedings continue.
