Goabari area of Rajganj submerged due to poor drainage system

Kalchini, 03rd July: The Goabari village, located near Bandhunagar under the jurisdiction of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat in Rajganj, has been severely affected by flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall. Local residents have blamed the poor drainage system for the current predicament, as water has started to inundate homes in the area.

Compounding the issue, the absence of a well-functioning drainage infrastructure leads to annual flooding in the region. Consequently, pedestrians are experiencing difficulties navigating through the waterlogged streets, and children are unable to attend school due to the accumulation of water.

Zakir Hussain, a former Panchayat member, expressed his views on the matter, stating that the construction of roads and drains had been sanctioned for the affected area. However, the work had to be halted as the local inhabitants were unwilling to vacate their land, hindering the progress. He further mentioned that the problem would only be resolved through road construction, which could only commence after the Panchayat elections.
