GJM leader Binay Tamang writes to PM demanding constitutional justice for Darjeeling Hills

Darjeeling, 07th January: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, second faction, President Binay Tamang wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding constitutional justice for the area of Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars and the Gorkhas community.

Tamang in his letter highlighted the political and geographical history of the region and demanded constitutional justice to the “much neglected” people of the area.

“You are aware that Gorkhas has been demanding a separate state which is very much justifiable because Darjeeling hills, Siliguri Terai and Duars region are only areas in the region which is separate from North East region but a part of eastern Himalaya,” Tamang wrote.

In addition to this, the GJM President also urged the PM to share the benefits of DONER (Development of North Eastern Region) with the region. Tamang maintained that he assumes the centre will look closely into the issues.

“The people living in these areas are also Indians. To grant them constitutional justice is the responsibility of the government,” he further added.

Reportedly, a copy of the letter has also been sent to the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
