Fraudsters flee with gold and silver jewellery using fake cash bundle scam in Fulbari

Fulbari, 01st May: A shocking case of fraud using an unusual tactic has come to light in Fulbari’s Battalion More area on Friday afternoon. Miscreants allegedly deceived a woman by handing her a bundle appearing to contain cash and fled with her gold and silver jewellery.

According to reports, Parul Biswas, a nearly 60-year-old woman, had stepped out of her house for shopping when the incident occurred. As she reached Battalion More, two unidentified youths approached her and engaged her in conversation. They lured her into believing that they possessed a bundle containing several lakhs of rupees and handed over a cloth-wrapped packet to her.

Trusting their claims, the woman handed over her gold and silver ornaments along with cash in exchange for the bundle. However, shortly after the youths left the spot, she grew suspicious. Upon opening the packet, she discovered it was filled with plain paper instead of money, realising she had been duped.

The incident triggered panic in the area. Upon receiving information, police from New Jalpaiguri police station reached the spot and began an investigation. Authorities are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused.
