Four international drug smugglers arrested in Jaigaon

Alipurduar, 22nd October: Jaigaon police arrested four international drug smugglers, including a woman, from the Jaigaon Tribeni Toll area along the Indo-Bhutan border.


350 grams of brown sugar and a luxurious SUV car were seized from their possession. The arrested accused have been identified as Karma Sherpa, Sonam Sherpa, Ramesh Lama, and Shiv Kumar Darjee. All are residents of Jaigaon.


Upon interrogation, the police uncovered Ramesh Lama as the mastermind behind the drug racket. He allegedly owns the car used for smuggling the substances.

The accused Ramesh stated that he had bought brown sugar from Siliguri and Malda for smuggling into Bhutan. He further revealed that Karma Sherpa, on Wednesday night, reached the Tribeni Toll area to sell the brown sugar. The market value of the recovered brown sugar has been estimated to be around 8 lakh rupees.
