Four arrested in drug smuggling bid in Siliguri

Siliguri, 07th January: In a significant collaboration, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police, the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station, and the Panitanki Outpost has successfully foiled drug smuggling bid at two different locations and arrested four involved in the case. The arrested accused have been identified as Swapan Biswas, Sandip Biswas, Manoj Roy and Kaushik Saha.


Sources revealed that on Saturday night, officers from the SOG and NJP police stations halted and searched a two-wheeler on the Naukaghat area adjacent to the Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat based on suspicion. During the search, the authorities recovered 590 pieces of intoxicating injection from the bags of the two individuals boarding the motorcycle. Subsequently, the authorities arrested accused Swapan Biswas and Sandip Biswas.

In a similar incident, the team of SOG along with the Panitanki Outpost police launched a tip off operation at the Mahakal Pally area adjacent to Surya Sen Park located in Siliguri’s Ward No. 10 and halted a scooter based on a suspicion. During the search, a substantial quantity of banned cough syrup was recovered from the vehicle and the accused Manoj Roy and Kaushik Saha were arrested in connection to the case.


Following the arrest, the police have registered a case against all four accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and will produce them in the court for legal proceedings.
