Forest personnel arrest three in Rajganj for smuggling teak wood to Kolkata

Rajganj, 12th March: Attempts to smuggle teak wood in the guise of lorries laden with bamboo were foiled by the Belakoba forest personnel. 


 

Reportedly, based on a tip-off the forest officials under the leadership of Belakoba Ranger Sanjay Dutta conducted an operation in the Panikauri area of Rajganj on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway and intercepted a lorry laden with bamboo. During the search, the forest workers recovered teak wood worth Rs 50 lakhs and arrested three smugglers in the said incident. 


 

 

The three accused have been identified as Prem Singh, Chahajul Islam, and Imran. Among them, Chahajul Islam is a resident of Assam and the other two are said to be residents of Uttar Pradesh

 

On interrogation, the accused have told that the wood was being smuggled from Guwahati to Kolkata. The three accused will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court on Monday.
