Five arrested with huge cache of cannabis and firearms in Siliguri

Siliguri, 12th July: The NJP Police and Milanpally outpost police arrested five people and seized a huge quantity of cannabis and firearms from their possession. The arrested have been identified as Gautam Mali, Rajen Sarkar, Khokon Adhikari, Subrata Deb, and Bhajan Das. They are reportedly residents of Phansidewa, Islampur, Siliguri, Bhaktinagar, and Fakdai Bari area.
As per the information, the police, on Saturday night, carried out a Naka checking near the Gajoldoba Teesta Barrage area and stopped a vehicle out of suspicion. After thoroughly searching it, 53 kgs of cannabis and firearms were recovered by the police. 
According to police sources, one of the accused, Gautam Mali, is said to have various past criminal records. Police also suspect that the gang must be involved in various other crimes other than cannabis smuggling.
The five arrested accused individuals will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday and will then be taken in police custody for 14 days. Police have launched an investigation into the whole incident.
