Female land mafia arrested from Siliguri

Siliguri, 09th February: The terror of the land mafia in Siliguri is still on the rise and has not taken the name to stop. The Siliguri Metropolitan Police has been running a campaign against such mafia for the past three consecutive months following the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Under this campaign, more than 150 small and big land mafias have been put behind bars. Despite this, the fake sale of land in Siliguri and the terror of the land mafia are not reducing.

Once again, a case of land embezzlement has come to the fore from Siliguri where a woman has been alleged of duping a person living abroad. According to the information, Mala Chhetri, a resident of Devidanga and infamous for being a land mafia was allegedly eyeing a piece of land in Salbari. Meanwhile, the said land belongs to a person living in the area under Pradhan Nagar police station and is currently based in Japan for work. Taking advantage of the situation, she sold the said land to Munna Pradhan by forging documents.

On being notified, the actual land owner who reached Siliguri from Japan lodged a written complaint at Pradhan Nagar police station. Based on the complaint, the police took action and first arrested Munna Pradhan, who had bought the land, and took him on remand. While interrogating Munna, the police learned that Mala Chhetri had sold the land to him.

Reportedly, more than half a dozen cases have been registered against Mala Chhetri for fraudulently selling land to people in Pradhan Nagar and Matigara. Acting promptly, the police started looking for her, they learned that the Matigara police station had already arrested Mala in another land case and put her on remand. However, as soon as the remand period at Matigara police station ended, Pradhan Nagar police station produced Mala in court and took her on remand for the next 5 days. The police are now trying to reach such a land mafia gang selling land papers fraudulently with the help of Mala Chhetri.
