Female elephant electrocuted to death in Madarihat

Madarihat, 27th May: In a heartbreaking incident, a female elephant was electrocuted amidst heavy rainfall in the Khairbari region. The unfortunate event unfolded on Friday night when the elephant ventured into a betel nut plantation, where a high-tension electric wire was installed.


Reportedly, the villagers noticed a betel nut tree catch fire, prompting them to investigate further. They discovered the lifeless body of the elephant lying nearby. The personnel from the Jaldapara National Park arrived at the scene and recovered the elephant’s body. Preliminary assessments by the forest officials indicate that the accident was caused by contact with the electrified betel nut tree.
