Nagrakata, 23rd October: An adult elephant died after it was run over by a speeding vehicle on National Highway 31 near Panjhora Basti under Nagrakata block.
According to local and forest department sources, the accident took place around midnight while the elephant was crossing the highway.
Rajkumar Layak, Khunia Forest Range officer, said that the elephant died after being hit by the speeding vehicle at around 12 o’clock. The animal was reportedly a male elephant, around the age of 3 years.
As per the information, the body of the elephant has been sent for post mortem today.
