Elderly woman killed in a suspected leopard attack in Alipurduar

Alipurduar, 28th August: Panic gripped the area following a shocking recovery of the mutilated body of an elderly woman in the Atitpara area under the jurisdiction of the Jateshwar Outpost of Alipurduar district. The deceased has been identified as Sardini Roy (65). Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman has possibly encountered a leopard attack.


According to reports, on Sunday night, the elderly woman went out of her residence during which her family members overheard a loud sound. Upon rushing outside, they discovered the footprints of a leopard. Subsequently, the locals began to look for the woman. Later, the forest personnel also arrived at the spot and joined the search operation.

On Monday morning, the decapitated body of the woman was found among the bushes about 500 meters away from the residence in the Dalgaon Forest Lagoon area of the Jalpaiguri Forest Division. Following the recovery, the body was transported for a post-mortem examination. At present, the incident is under a detailed investigation.
