Naxalbari, 01st October: An elderly man tragically drowned in the Mechi River while returning home after selling milk. The body of the deceased, identified as Bidyananda Roy, was recovered five days after the incident.
According to reports, the body was spotted on the riverbank of the Mechi River near Lalji Jote in Naxalbari. Family members recognized the body by his clothing. Roy had crossed the Mechi River near the Indo-Nepal border while heading home from the nearby Bara Maniram Jote last Friday when he accidentally fell into the river and went missing.
Upon receiving the news, police from the Naxalbari Police Station arrived at the scene to retrieve the body. The body was scheduled for an autopsy at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Wednesday.
