DYFI Uttarkanya Campaign: DYFI rioters pelt stones at policemen, 3 injured

Siliguri, 12th February: Three policemen were injured after they were pelted stones by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demonstrators.


Addressing the issues, Siliguri Police Commissioner Tripurari Atharv informed that the Uttarkanya Campaign, called by the DYFI today, was stopped from reaching Uttarkanya by the police. Barricades were placed at the Teen Batti intersection. When the demonstrators tried to break the barricades and move forward, the police launched water cannons at them. Agitated by the move, the DYFI protesters allegedly pelted stones and bricks at the personnel.


At a press conference, the Siliguri Police Commissioner stated that 3 policemen sustained injuries in the riot. He further maintained that a case will be filed by the police against the incident. While on the other hand, the DYFI cadres claim that the police resorted to lathi-charge due to which several DYFI members were injured.
