DRI arrests two with gold worth over Rs 1 crore in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st October: The DRI team intercepted two residents of Mizoram in Siliguri in connection to gold smuggling racket. The said gold was being smuggled from the Indo-Myanmar border to Delhi via Siliguri. The two accused have been identified as Vanlalvuana (38) and Malsawmtluanga (34). 


According to DRI sources, the team received a tip-off about the gold which was going to be smuggled into the country’s capital Delhi via Siliguri through Rajdhani Express from Guwahati via the Indo-Myanmar border. Acting on the information received the DRI team launched a campaign on the train itself. During this, two people sitting on coach number (B-11) were searched on suspicion. During this, 4 pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from their footwear.

On failing to provide any official documents related to gold the duo was arrested and brought to the DRI’s office. The weight of the seized gold is said to be 2 kg whose market value has been estimated at Rs 1 crore 1 lakh and 25 thousand.
