DRI arrested three people with gold worth crores in Siliguri

Siliguri, 26th March: Sensation prevailed after the DRI team arrested three people with gold biscuits worth crores. The said Dubai gold was being smuggled from Siliguri to Vrindavan in a four-wheeler. Before the smugglers could smuggle, the team of DRI foiled their plan. The said gold biscuits were recovered from a secret chamber of the four-wheeler. 


 

Reportedly, the arrested accused have been identified as Murarilal Soni, Sonpal Soni and Shri Baiju, residents of Rajasthan and Mathura respectively. Acting on a tip-off, the DRI team intercepted and searched a four-wheeler at Bagdogra’s Airport More. During this, a special chamber was found inside the vehicle. After this, when the DRI team opened the secret compartment, 23 pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from it. On asked to provide valid documentation, the three accused failed to provide it. After this, the DRI team arrested the three accused from the vehicle on charges of smuggling.


 

 

DRI’s advocate Trideep Saha said that on Saturday, based on a tip-off, the DRI team had recovered 2 kg 668 grams of gold from a vehicle at Bagdogra Airport More. The market value of the said gold has been estimated at Rs 1 crore 57 lakhs. The recovered gold is of Dubai mark. Trideep Saha further said that Murarilal Soni, Sonpal Soni and Mr Baiju had made a deal to buy foreign gold from a person named Raju alias Rajkumar Agarwal, a resident of Siliguri Ward No. 3. Under which the three accused had also paid an advance of Rs 24,40,000 to Rajkumar Agarwal. After this, all three reached Siliguri from Vrindavan to retrieve the said gold. After getting the gold, the three were headed to Vrindavan, but before that, the DRI team arrested all three. Today all three were presented in Siliguri court.

 

 

Based on the statement of the three accused, last night the DRI team also raided the house of Rajkumar Aggarwal located in Ward No. 03. During this, cash of Rs 24,40,00 was recovered, but Rajkumar Agarwal absconded. At the same time, the defence lawyer Akhil Vishwas said that his client has been wrongly implicated by the DRI. He added that he will file a bail application for his client in court on Monday.
