Demonstration staged in Siliguri demanding investigation into Stan Swamy’s death

Siliguri, 07th July: The Anti-Fascist Citizens’ Forum and the Association For Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) staged a protest in Hashmi Chowk, on Wednesday, demanding an investigation into the death of social and human rights activist Stan Swamy during jail custody.

It has been learned that they raised various demands including the investigation of Stan Swamy’s death. They blamed the centre for his demise and demanded the resignation of the central government.

It is to be noted that Stan Swamy, accused in the Elgaar Parishad case, breathes his last on Monday while he was in district custody. All political parties have been calling for a probe into his death since the incident. Ten opposition leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have already written to the President.

APDR secretary Aviranjan Bhaduri said, “I strongly oppose the death of Stan Swamy. The centre’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) is creating an atmosphere of terror across the country. Those who oppose the central government are being arrested under various cases. We oppose all such anti-people undemocratic activities.”
