Defamation case of Rs 60 Lakh filed against GTA Chief Anit Thapa

Darjeeling, 23rd May: A defamation case amounting to Rs 60 lakh has been filed against Anit Thapa, Chief Executive Officer of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and President of Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM). The case was lodged by Ajoy Edwards, President of Hamro Party and Sabhashad of GTA.


According to a statement released by Hamro Party, during a meeting held on March 28, 2023, BGPM President Anit Thapa made allegations against Ajoy Edwards, claiming that he had accepted a commission of Rs 30 lakh from a drinking water project. Thapa further alleged that the councillors were upset with Edwards after learning about the alleged incident. In response to the accusations, Edwards has filed a defamation case in the district court seeking compensation of Rs 60 lakh. He asserts that his reputation and dignity have been severely damaged by these unfounded claims.
