Death of a newborn due to alleged negligence in treatment in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri, 13th January: Sensation prevailed over the death of a newborn baby at a nursing home in Jalpaiguri Ukilpara. The deceased’s family has already lodged a complaint at the Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station against the on-duty doctor. However, the nursing home authorities denied all allegations.


As per the report, last Friday, Samir Sen, a resident of Lataguri, admitted his pregnant wife Shukla Sen to a nursing home in Ukilpara, Jalpaiguri. She gave birth to a daughter on the very same day.

On Saturday, Samir Sen returned home as both the child and the mother were healthy. However, later in the night, he was informed that the condition of their child is critical.


Upon receiving the news, he rushed to the nursing home late at night. The child was later admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital. Unfortunately, the newborn died shortly afterwards.

Sen alleged that the staff of the nursing home provided an injection to the child. Since then, the condition of the child had worsened. He alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence in treatment.
