Darjeeling District Left Front protested in support of various demands

Siliguri, 03rd July: Darjeeling District Left Front today protested in front of Siliguri’s Anil Bishwas Bhawan in support of various demands including withdrawal of hiked petroleum prices. The members of the organization demanded a reduction in the prices of petrol, diesel, gas and daily necessities, withdrawal of GST on oxygen and medicines and punishment for the accused involved in the fake vaccine scandal in Kolkata. They further demanded immediate elections in Siliguri Divisional Council and Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

CPI(M) leader Jibesh Sarkar alleged that the state government and the central government are not paying much heed to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Private hospitals are looting people in the name of treatment and the government is not taking any action against them. The prices of everyday necessities including petrol and diesel are increasing,” Sarkar added.

He further alleged that the citizens of Siliguri are facing problems due to the non-constituency of board of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. They demand immediate elections in SMC and Siliguri Divisional Council. During the protest, former mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation Ashok Bhattacharya, Jibesh Sarkar, Dilip Singh and other Left Front workers were present.
