Siliguri, 29th June: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken strict action against unauthorized hoardings in the city. Allegations have been raised that several advertising agencies have been putting up hoardings across different roads for a long time without permission, thereby evading government revenue. It has also been alleged that these hoardings were installed without obtaining approval from the civic body and without paying the required taxes.
In this situation, the civic body has prepared a list of unauthorized hoardings in different areas of the city and started a demolition drive. On Monday, a large unauthorized hoarding in front of a shopping mall on Sevoke Road was demolished. On the same day, several other hoardings were removed from different parts of the city during the drive.
During the operation, Siliguri Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bir Bikram Rai was present. Under his supervision, municipal staff carried out the demolition work. According to SMC sources, unauthorized hoardings across the city are being identified and will be removed in phases.
The civic body has stated that no hoarding will be allowed without permission and that action against violations will continue in the coming days.
