Coal scam case: Rujira Banerjee responds to CBI notice, asks team to visit her residence tomorrow

Before getting a second notice, Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Narula Banerjee responded to the CBI’s summons in the alleged coal scam case. She asked a team of the agency to visit her residence tomorrow. Rujira Banerjee will apparently be joining the probe at the Santiniketan Bhawan in Kalighat on February 23, not as an accused, but as a witness.

According to sources, the CBI officials held a meeting at the Nizam’s Palace after the letter of Rujira Narula reached their office.

In a reply to a notice sent by the CBI on Monday, Rujira said that she is unaware of the case for which she is being questioned. However, she asked the CBI officials to carry out their investigation process at her home from 11 am to 3 pm on February 23.

It is to recall that a team of CBI visited the house of Trinamool Congress heavyweight and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, on Sunday in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged coal smuggling case. Banerjee’s wife Rujira Narula had been asked to join the probe. The CBI had raided over 45 places in West Bengal in the illegal coal theft case earlier on November 28.
