Siliguri, 23rd March: A demonstration was held by the e-rickshaw drivers union under the banner of CITU demanding to allow e-rickshaws to ply on road. The union staged a protest in front of SDO’s office and submitted a memorandum in support of the demands.
E-Rickshaw Drivers Union President Udayan Das Gupta said that Toto drivers are not being allowed to ply on roads in the city. Police are harassing them for hours by arresting them without any reason. Due to this the driver are unable to drive toto properly which also affects their livelihood. He stated that unemployed youths are earning by driving totos but the administration’s unnecessary interventions are causing trouble for them.
At the same time, he added that a memorandum has been submitted to the SDO in support of the demand for valid documents from the administration, and unnecessary actions from the police. Meanwhile, SDO has assured to solve the problems of the toto drivers.
