Child dies after being hit by a truck while going to school in Siliguri, angry residents stage a protest

Siliguri, 24th November: A tragic road accident claimed a life of an eight-year-old boy while he was on his way to school in Bowbazar. The child was in a scooty with his sister when they collided with a truck near Siliguri’s Jabrabhita VIP road. The collision led to the child’s death on spot after being mowed by the truck’s wheel while his sister sustained injuries and is currently under treatment. 


Tension ensued after the locals started protesting fiercely against the dilapidated road and the careless movement of trucks. People expressed their anger by blocking the road. On the other hand, soon after getting information about the incident, a huge police force from the NJP police station reached the spot. 

While handling the tense situation, a clash arose between the locals and the police. Later DCP Traffic Abhishek Gupta and ACP East Subhendra Kumar reached the spot. During this, the residents alleged that the condition of VIP Road has been dilapidated for years and the trucks and oil tankers ply carelessly on the road every day leading to such accidents every coming day.
