Cannabis Smuggling in Government Bus: Driver arrested in police operation in Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 18th November: In a major crackdown, police foiled an attempt to smuggle cannabis on a government bus. During a raid at the Ghoshpukur toll plaza in Phansidewa, 16.5 kg of cannabis was seized from a South Bengal State Transport Corporation bus. The driver, identified as Debalu Chakraborty, a resident of Nadia, was arrested in connection with the incident.


Reportedluy, acting on a tip-off, the Bidhannagar Investigation Center and Ghoshpukur Outpost police intercepted a bus traveling from Siliguri to Kolkata on Sunday night. Upon searching the vehicle, a bag containing 16 kg 500 grams of cannabis was discovered.

The driver’s statements during the investigation were found to be inconsistent, leading to his arrest. He was presented before the Siliguri court on Monday. Meanwhile, police have launched a detailed probe into the smuggling operation.
