Siliguri, 20th July: A case of alleged extortion demand and attack on a builder at an under-construction project on Sevoke Road in Siliguri has surfaced. Police have arrested BJP 8 No. Mandal Yuva president, identified as, Toton Das in connection with the case and started a search for other accused named in the FIR.
According to the complaint lodged by builder Praveen Mundra, he had visited his under-construction project on Sevoke Road on 16th July. During this time, a group of around 15 to 20 people allegedly arrived at the spot and demanded ₹10 lakh every month.
The complaint stated that when Mundra opposed the demand, the accused allegedly attacked him with iron rods, chains and other weapons. He sustained a serious ear injury, due to which his hearing ability was reportedly affected by around 40 percent.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under sections related to extortion, attempt to murder and other serious offences and started an investigation.
During the investigation, police arrested the accused Toton Das. Follow the arrest, he was produced before the Jalpaiguri court.
Police are continuing their investigation and conducting raids to trace the other accused named in the case. Police said action will be taken against those found involved as per law.
