Jalpaiguri, 01st July: A pall of grief has descended on Salbari village under Dakshin Berubari Gram Panchayat in Jalpaiguri following the unnatural death of a woman BSF personnel posted in Jammu. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Bishnupriya Roy. Family members broke down in tears as her coffin arrived at the village on Tuesday afternoon. Her last rites were performed at Rangapani crematorium later in the day.
According to family members and local sources, Bishnupriya Roy had joined the Border Security Force (BSF) in 2023 and was currently posted in Jammu. She had last visited her home during a leave period in March this year before returning to duty.
It has been reported that her body was recovered in a hanging condition from her quarters in Jammu on Monday. Sources further stated that a suicide note was also recovered from the spot.
Family members claimed that they had spoken to Bishnupriya normally on Monday morning. However, they were later informed about her death in the afternoon.
Relatives and neighbours said that Bishnupriya was known for her calm, polite and intelligent nature, and they are struggling to come to terms with her sudden demise.
The exact reason behind the incident remains unclear, and the concerned authorities have initiated an investigation. Bishnupriya’s untimely death has cast a deep shadow of grief across the area.
