Rajganj, 20th December: The block administration has successfully reclaimed the illegally occupied government land in Rajganj. On Friday, approximately two ‘bighas’ of government land in the Purba Bhatpara area of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat were freed and a government board was installed to mark the area.
According to reports, Montu Kumar Roy, a local, had illegally occupied a pond, bamboo grove, and agricultural land in the Bhatpara village for a long time. He even obtained a land lease for the property. Following a complaint filed at the Jalpaiguri Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, the lease was annulled. Subsequently, officials from the BLLRO arrived on-site and removed the encroachment.
Sonam Rumba, the Revenue Officer of Rajganj BLLRO, stated that a complaint regarding land in Bhatpara was filed at the Jalpaiguri Sub-Divisional Officer’s office. After hearings, the 66 decimal of government land was identified and reclaimed on Friday, as per the instructions of the District SDO.
Meanwhile, Montu Kumar Roy insisted that the land was rightfully his, as he had a lease. He added that the matter is currently under litigation in the district court and that he would approach the High Court if needed.
