Gajoldoba, 28th December: On Thursday, the members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) of Uttar Rajganj Mandal staged a road blockade in Takimari adjacent to Gajoldoba under Rajganj block demanding immediate arrest of the accused involved in the sexual assault of a minor.
As per details gathered, the minor, a student of sixth grade, lived at her grandfather’s residence after her mother’s demise. Reportedly, on December 10 evening, the minor was returning home from her friend’s house. During this, a neighbour identified as Kartik Roy allegedly lured her, took her to a secluded location and attempted the heinous act. Upon hearing the screams of the minor, the locals arrived at the spot. However, Kartik fled from the scene.
Later, the minor’s family lodged a written complaint at Bhorer Alo police station. Despite the complaint, the accused is still at large which prompted the members of BJYM to stage a road blockade on this day.
Speaking in this regard, BJP leader Debashish Dey claimed that the accused is the father of a local Trinamool leader. He added that, despite being accused of a severe crime as sexual assault, the police have still not apprehended the accused. Furthermore, they demanded the arrest and stringent punishment for the accused.
Meanwhile, upon receiving news of the blockade, a huge contingent of police including OC Sandip Dutta of Bhorer Alo police station arrived at the spot. Subsequently, upon being assured of apprehending the accused, the blockade was relaxed by the protestors. However, the members of BJYM alerted of a massive agitation upon failure to arrest the accused.
On the other hand, Trinamool Yuva Congress President Tushar Kanti Dutta stated that he would look into the matter while refuting existence of political influence into the matter. He added that if the accused is found guilty, action will be initiated as per the law.
