Jalpaiguri, 29th July: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a gherao and protest at Jalpaiguri Municipality on Wednesday, alleging poor public services and deprivation of citizens.
The protest was attended by BJP state secretary Bapi Goswami. Addressing the gathering, Goswami alleged that the Trinamool Congress came to power in the 2022 municipal elections through “false voting” and demanded that the TMC-run municipality representatives apologise to the people and step down.
Goswami said that the BJP’s silence should not be considered a weakness. Warning the Trinamool representatives in the Municipality, he said that if anyone tries to hold on to power and engage in “indecent behaviour”, the BJP would respond strongly.
Meanwhile, BJP alleged that no TMC elected representative was present at the municipality during the protest after receiving information about the gherao programme.
Later, BJP workers and supporters entered the municipality premises and staged a demonstration.
