Rajganj, 23rd June: Tension erupted at Mantadari Gram Panchayat in Rajganj on Tuesday after BJP workers staged a protest alleging irregularities in the allocation of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The protesters gathered at the Gram Panchayat office and accused the authorities of large-scale irregularities in the distribution of housing benefits. According to BJP workers, benefits were allegedly provided to certain individuals using the job cards of others.
They also alleged that houses had been allotted through multiple fake job cards, depriving several genuine beneficiaries of the scheme’s benefits.
Seeking answers over the allegations, BJP workers and supporters visited the Gram Panchayat office and demanded an explanation from the Pradhan. They claimed that they did not receive a satisfactory response regarding the matter.
As the protest intensified, BJP workers allegedly locked the Gram Panchayat office from the outside with the Pradhan and other Panchayat employees still inside.
Meanwhile, Mantadari Gram Panchayat Pradhan Archana Roy said she was not fully aware of the allegations. She stated that she became the Pradhan in 2023 and that the alleged irregularities may have taken place before her tenure.
