Rajganj, 08th July: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest outside the Sukhani Gram Panchayat office in Rajganj on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of the Pradhan and alleging irregularities in various government schemes, including the Annapurna Yojana.
Hundreds of BJP workers and supporters took out a rally from the Goruhati area and reached the Sukhani Gram Panchayat office, where they staged a demonstration.
The protesters alleged that people under the Trinamool Congress-led Gram Panchayat were being deprived of benefits from various government schemes. They claimed that several eligible applicants had applied multiple times for the Annapurna Yojana but had not received financial assistance, while some financially well-off people had allegedly received the benefits.
The protesters also raised allegations of irregularities in the Awas Yojana, construction of government toilets, distribution of benefits under various schemes, and implementation of the Annapurna Yojana. They accused the Panchayat of corruption and favouritism in development works and demanded the resignation of the current Pradhan.
During the protest, the agitators raised slogans alleging, “No work will happen as long as TMC members remain.”
The demonstration led to tension in the area for some time. Police from Rajganj Police Station were deployed at the spot to control the situation.
Sukhani Gram Panchayat Pradhan Parimal Roy said that the allegations related to the Awas Yojana were connected to the 2018 project, while he assumed charge as Pradhan in 2023. He added that the Annapurna Yojana is managed through the Block administration and assured that the allegations raised by the protesters would be examined.
