Phansidewa, 01st March: On Friday, the members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kisan Morcha staged a protest by encircling the Phansidewa police station demanding strict punishment for the accused Sheikh Shahjahan of Sandeshkhali. In attendance were Siliguri Organizational District General Secretary Raju Saha, Secretary Lakshmi Sharma, Kisan Morcha Secretary Anil Ghosh and others.
According to reports, the BJP workers arrived at Phansidewa police station demanding death penalty of Sheikh Shahjahan. Subsequently, the protestors were halted by the officials when they arrived at the police station. During this, there was a scuffle between the officials and the workers. Later, a memorandum was submitted to Naxalbari Circle Inspector comprising the several demands put forth in the protest.
In this regard, District President of Kisan Morcha Manik Chandra Singh emphasized that Sheikh Shahjahan had allegedly harassed the women of Bengal and called for his punishment.
