BJP 12 hour bandh: Tension surrounding road blockade and protest

Siliguri, 28th February: The atmosphere boiled up in the city since Monday morning surrounding the 12-hour bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

It is to be noted that the state BJP called for a bandh in West Bengal on Monday protesting against violence in civic polls. Accordingly, party leaders and activists staged rallies in different parts of Siliguri from this morning. Following this, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh and Anandmoy Barman took to the streets at 9.30 am.

Party workers were seen marching on Hillcart Road, Bidhan Road, and Mahabirsthan and shutting down shops. After a road blockade was staged at Hashmi Chowk, BJP leaders and workers got into a scuffle with the police. They were then arrested. Two BJP MLAs were also taken to the Siliguri police station.
