Banned fire crackers worth Rs 60 lakh seized in Siliguri, two in custody

Siliguri, 24th December: The plan to smuggle banned firecrackers in the guise of cloths and cup-plates was foiled by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the cops of Matigara police station. Truck driver and the assistant were detained from Paribahan Nagar area in Matigara.


According to the SOG, their team received a tip-off regarding a huge quantity of banned firecrackers that was being transported in a truck bearing the number (WB/57A/4716) from Kolkata to Assam and Tripura.

Acting promptly, a team of SOG and Matigara police jointly launched a campaign at Matigara Paribahan Nagar bus stand. During this, a truck laden with cloth and cup-plates was searched and about 15 bags of banned firecrackers were recovered. The market value of which has been estimated at around Rs 60 lakhs. The driver and his assistant were detained. Police are probing the matter.
