Bangladeshi national arrested for allegedly obtaining Indian Aadhaar card illegally in Siliguri

Siliguri, 09th June: Bhakti Nagar Police have arrested a Bangladeshi national for allegedly obtaining an Indian Aadhaar card through fraudulent means from the Don Bosco More area on Sevoke Road in Siliguri.

The accused has been identified as Suresh Singhania (65), a native of Bangladesh. Police sources said the arrest was made following a tip-off, after which a raid was conducted at a house in the Don Bosco More area on Monday night.

During the operation, police detained the accused on suspicion and recovered an Aadhaar card and other documents from his possession.

During interrogation, Suresh Singhania reportedly admitted that he is a Bangladeshi citizen who had entered India on a valid visa, but had illegally obtained an Indian Aadhaar card.

Preliminary investigation also revealed that he had been visiting India for several years and may have been involved in property-related activities, including possible land purchase in the Dum Dum area of Kolkata.

Police further said the accused had arrived in Siliguri around five days ago and was staying at a relative’s house in the Don Bosco More area.

Investigators are now probing how the Aadhaar card was issued and who helped him obtain it.

The accused has been produced before the Jalpaiguri court, with police seeking remand for further interrogation.
