Siliguri, 19th July: The Baikunthapur Forest Department organised a grand programme in Siliguri on Sunday to mark ‘Aranya Saptaha’, with a focus on tree plantation and environmental awareness. The event was held at Dinbandhu Mancha and witnessed the participation of State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh and Minister of State Anandamay Barman.
Before the main programme, the two Ministers took part in a tree plantation drive on the premises of Siliguri Boys’ High School, highlighting the importance of increasing green cover and protecting the environment.
As part of the celebrations, the Forest Department also organised a special exhibition featuring photographs and videos showcasing various activities conducted during ‘Aranya Saptaha’. Visitors were also provided with information on the department’s initiatives aimed at forest conservation, biodiversity protection, and environmental awareness.
The programme was attended by Forest Department officials, students from schools and colleges, and environmental enthusiasts. During the event, Ministers Shankar Ghosh and Anandamay Barman felicitated the winners of competitions organised as part of the celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, speakers urged people to actively participate in forest conservation, tree plantation, and environmental protection. The awareness initiatives undertaken by the Baikunthapur Forest Department received widespread appreciation.
