ATMs-banks loot attempt case: Two including army man arrested

Siliguri, 28th January: Two people, including an army man, have been arrested for attempting to rob ATMs and banks in Siliguri. The accused has been identified as Praveen Kumar, stationed as a Lance Naik in Sikkim.


It is to recall, earlier on January 12, an attempt to rob SBI’s e-corner near Court More in the wee hours. The miscreants allegedly carried sharp weapons and also attacked the security guard Sabirul Haque. Later, on the night of January 16, an attempt was made to rob the two banks located at Panitanki More. After the incident, police were on the lookout for the criminals.

The Siliguri police arrested Praveen Kumar on January 25 during another ATM robbery in Deshbandhu Para. Along with Praveen Kumar, another man identified as Rahul Kumar was arrested. The accused were taken into police custody for 5 days.


Today, D. P. Singh, Commissioner of Police Siliguri Police Commissionerate, in a press conference stated that Praveen Kumar has attempted numerous robberies in many parts of the city. Apparently, Army officials have also been informed regarding the matter. Several tools used in the robberies have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
