Army jawan lost his life in Sikkim flash flood, last rites performed in Kalchini

Kalchini, 06th October: Army Jawan Bimal Oraon, a resident of Madhu Tea Estate in Kalchini block, lost his life in the Sikkim disaster. Bimal was one of the soldiers who got swept away by the flash flood in Teesta. Notably, on Tuesday night, the Army Jawan talked with his family over the phone.


According to reports, on Wednesday, the body of the Army Jawan was recovered from the Teesta River in Gajoldoba. Upon receiving the news, Bimal’s brother went to identify the deceased body on Thursday. Following this, the body was transported to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.

Subsequently, after paying homage at the Binnaguri Army Camp, the deceased body was transported to his home. Following this, an atmosphere of grief prevailed in the area. On Friday, Bimal Oraon’s last rites were performed with full state honor at Basra Ghat in Hamiltonganj. A crowd of locals gathered to get a last glimpse of the martyred Jawan.
